We thoroughly sand every component of the existing cabinets until all of the finish is removed. In some cases, we also use chemical strippers to completely remove old varnish. Then we re-stain the cabinets the color of choice and re-varnish them as well.

Cabinet refinishing can also apply to situations where the cabinets are to be painted. Nick’s Painting & Decorating experts will still sand and strip the cabinets down to bare wood in order to get the best adhesion from the paint. If a painting contractor tells you this is an unnecessary step, you’re using the wrong contractor!

Cabinet Resurfacing

When we resurface cabinets, we cover the existing cabinets with wood veneer or laminate, thin materials that make the boxes, side panels, and face frames look brand new. The cabinet doors and drawer fronts must be replaced, but every precaution is taken to ensure that the wood patterns and colors match seamlessly.

You’ll hear this term in certain circles, but it means essentially the same thing as resurfacing. There actually are only two options here, not three.
